Tagore's Complete Works @ The Click Of A Mouse

Compiling the complete works of Rabindranath Tagore is by any means a daunting task. But two Kolkata-based IT professionals have taken the pains to upload all of it, bit by bit, on a website for the sake of Tagore-lovers all around the world. And, that too, free of cost.

The website created by Some Sengupta and Sandipan Sarkar www.tagoreweb.in started its journey from Saturday. Though the work is still in progress, it will have the entire Tagore collection, claims the duo. And, it's all arranged under categories like Verses', Songs', Novels', Stories', Plays', Essays' and Miscellaneous' for easy access.

"Tagore and his works are synonymous with the Bengali culture and life. While his works have found their place in almost every library and Bengali household, they have been largely missing on one of the most important and pervasive means of media the internet," said Sengupta, a software professional.

The website, apart from the collection of Tagore's creation, will also have an open forum for people to express their opinions about the site or discuss topics related to Tagore and his works. "It could actually be like a social networking site for Tagore-lovers," said Sarkar.

"Though netizens can only get the notes of all Rabindrasangeet from our website, in future they will also be able to download the songs. We are trying our best to have all these facilities in the site," he added.

The techies are busy updating the site day by day and also letting everyone know about it via social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and Orkut. Their biggest challenge, however, would be to maintain copyright laws.

"We are fully aware of copyright rules and some specialists are helping us in our work. We only hope the site brings a smile on the faces of Tagore admirers across the world," said Sarkar.
