Now, Online Inspection Of SchoolsBy ugesh sarkar, Section Kolkata in Cyberspace
In an attempt to upgrade the academic standard of schools, the state school education department will introduce an online supervision system to expedite the inspection procedure. Funds required to implement this programme will be sanctioned under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan scheme. The system will help officials to submit their reports immediately after inspecting the schools, thus enabling the department to take necessary steps in improving infrastructure facilities.
Currently, the inspection procedure is time-consuming and cumbersome. The inspectors of schools first supervise the institutions after which they fill up forms on general information such as the infrastructure of the school, number of teachers, academic results in board examinations, attendance of students and grants received. Facts are also provided on the teaching-learning methodologies used in the school, proficiency of teachers in asking proper questions, involvement of students in classroom learning, class management of teachers and the number of students opting for private tuition. The forms are then manually submitted to the department. "It is sometimes found that forms are not filled correctly. This delays the process further," said an official of the school education department. The department has selected the Higher Secondary schools of the state for inspections to be conducted online. After computerisation, the forms will be filled up online and queries which may arise can be immediately addressed, said the official. "Our ultimate aim is to establish contact with the schools directly. For this, we plan to install Internet facilities in schools. Teachers and members of the managing committees can communicate their problems directly through mail," said the official. This apart, inspectors can send their feedback from the respective schools themselves. The department will set up resource centres at three levels ~ block, district and state. The inspectors will submit the supervision forms at these centres. A monitoring cell will be set up at Bikash Bhawan which will assess forms and inform schools on areas of improvement. These centres will act as `information sharing centres' for teachers and officials of the school education department. Source: The Statesman Now, online inspection of schools
