Missionary Schools Want To Hire Teachers On Own TermsBy akansha, Section Education
The Christian missionary schools are all set for a showdown with the state government on the issue of recruiting teachers.
During the crucial July 18 meeting of the various founder bodies that run about 700 missionary schools in Bengal, it is most likely that they will go ahead with recruiting teachers on their own terms. In case of disapproval from the government, the schools will challenge it at the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions. While 300 schools run by the Christian missionary organizations receive Dearness Allowance from the state government, they want an exemption from the reservation on the basis of being minority institutions. The institutions also want to give more weightage to class demonstration and viva in the recruitment of teachers compared to the state government's recruitment process. "It has been two years since we are trying to put forth our demands but there is a disagreement between two departments the school education department and the department of minority affairs and madrasah education. As a result, the minority institutions are suffering," said Herod Mullick, the state secretary of Bangiya Christiya Pariseba.
