Kolkata On Wheels First Automobile-Centric Lifestyle Magazine Arrives To Reduce Your Traffic WoesBy Nishant, Section News
Wondering where to head for a long drive on the weekend? Or how to navigate your way through the chaotic traffic snarls in the city? Or even the best places to savour "rosogollas" from? There is good news for the explorers in Kolkata: The first automobile-centric lifestyle magazine dedicated exclusively to the city has been launched.
The monthly magazine, aptly christened Kolkata on Wheels, promises to be a complete handbook on the city. The first issue of the magazine, for instance, has one whole section describing the terrible condition of median dividers on city streets and how they pose a threat to motorists. A Guide India publication, the magazine is supported by the Kolkata Traffic Police, Automobile Association of Eastern India, Rotary International District 3291 and Bengal Motor Sports Club. In each issue, the magazine will trace the history behind each of the streets in Kolkata, with Park Street (now Mother Teresa Sarani) being in the spotlight in the first issue. The magazine, which claims to be the first-of-its kind to fill a huge void in motoring in and around the city for the new generation car owners, will also dedicate a section to the "one-ways" in Kolkata. "When you are caught in a traffic jam and not familiar with the streets and alleys of that locality, the section will help you to find a way out of the chaotic traffic maze," said Shyamashree Sen, managing editor of Kolkata on Wheels.
She added, "This is where the Kolkata Traffic Police has chipped in with its technical support, without which the venture could not have been possible". It also has sections dedicated to places of interest in the city and destinations close to the city ideal for short trips. The first issue features Mandarmoni, a sea-side locale where motorists can drive-in during their weekends. The magazine will also contain sections on food and columns where celebrities speak of their favourite car models. It will also have car care tips and a discussion forum for car owners to brainstorm on the myriad problems centred around motoring in the city. Source: Express News Service 29/Sep/2008
