West Bengal Working On Rehabilitation Plan For Industrialisation On Singur PatternBy Nishant, Section Development
The West Bengal government today said it is working on a new rehabilitation package for the industrial development in the state on the pattern of what it announced for Singur where Tata Motors was working on its small car Nano project.
"We are working on a rehabilitation package for other industries on the pattern of Singur. We will take it forward after Durga Puja," State Chief Secretary Sabyasachi Sen told PTI on phone. Amid reports that the state government was working on new rehabilitation package for Singur, Sen clarified that it is a general rehabilitation package and not directed at any particular project. Reports from Singur quoting Hooghly District Magistrate Neelam Meena said that altogether 70 farmers took the enhanced rehabilitation package in the last two days. The land of 2,000 farmers have been acquired for the Tata Motors project at Singur. "Altogether 25 farmers took their compensation cheques in the last two days -- 13 today and 12 yesterday," Meena said. Click On "Full Story" For More...

The government had offered 10 per cent over and above the 50 per cent in the new rehabilitation package, which was advertised in newspapers on September 14. Besides, those affected would be eligible to 300 days wages at National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) rate. On September 15, addressing a mammoth 'pro-Nano' rally organised by the Left Front at Singur, its chairman Biman Bose had said all those who had not taken compensation would be entitled to an additional 10 per cent more if they took their cheques within September 22. source: www.outlookindia.com 25/Sep/2008
