Railway Police Deploy Flying Squads To Patrol Metro PlatformsBy Nishant, Section News
Coaches and platforms of Metro railway, which have been lying unmanned, will now be patrolled by flying squads of security personnel. Each squad will comprise four to five RPF personnel besides one metro rail personnel, and will have two or three stations under its jurisdiction.
The team will board the first station and disembark on reaching the third. After this, they will take the return train. For 17 stations, there will be five flying squads. "This will ensure that all the trains and stations are covered," said a senior official of the Metro Railway. A day after the Delhi blasts, senior officials of both the Eastern Railway and Metro authorities held an emergency meeting. In the suburban EMU section, sniffer dogs will be pressed into service to monitor all the coaches including sleeper coaches. Until now, sniffer dogs were only deployed for AC and general coaches. The number of entry and exit points will be kept to the bare minimum in both the Sealdah and Howrah stations to ensure proper monitoring of commuters. Car and bicycle parking lots will now be under strict vigilance. The authorities are even thinking of hiking up the charges at the parking lots to discourage parking. source: Express News Service 25/Sep/2008
