The state government has decided to give land free of cost to those who will be evicted from 232 acres of land on the western side of the third Mahananda bridge in Jalpaiguri. The land will be used for construction of a township that is going to be taken up on a private public partnership (PPP) basis. A notification issued by the Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA) said owners of houses set up on 10 cottah of land or more would be given alternative land up to 5 cottah in addition to money they have already received or flats at subsidised rates. Those who had purchased land less than 435 square feet would be given land measuring the same area
