Madrasas To Be Upgraded To Formal Education Centres In North Dinajpur DistrictBy Nishant, Section Education
With an objective to bring the students of private madrasas in to main-stream education and to reduce the rate of drop outs, the state government has reportedly initiated a move to upgrade 57 private madrasas to formal education centres in North Dinajpur district.
On the basis of this direction, the North Dinajpur district administration formed a five member committee headed by Md Mustafa, the Siksha Karmadhaksha of North Dinajpur zillaprishad. A survey was conducted to prepare a list of such private madrasas which needed to be upgraded to formal education centers. It was reported that 20 government approved madrasas are functional covering all nine blocks of the district and in addition there are another 200 private madrasas in the district of which around 150 are situated in Goalpokhar-1 ,Goal pokhar-2 and Islampur blocks. The District Planning Officer of North Dinajpur district Mr Enaur Rahaman said, The students in such private madrasas would be educated on religious teachings till date. Hence we are planning to introduce formal education which will benefit the students greatly. The District Magistrate of North Dinajpur, Mr Sukumar Bhattacharjee said, "We constituted a five member committee who are preparing a report based on all private madrasas in different blocks of the district. As soon as it is done the list is to be sent to the state government asking for approval." After the introduction of such formal education centers in private madrasas the scope of education will flourish in the district and drop outs will reduce extensively,added Mr Bhattacharjee.
