The Bankura Christian College is planning to introduce Post Graduate Courses in order to work towards attaining deemed university status.
In the year 2006 the college was accredited as a B++ institution by the National Assessment & Accreditation Council an autonomous council set up by the University Grant Council.
The College began its journey with an affiliation from the Calcutta University under the able stewardship of its founder principal Reverend J Mitchell.

It was established by the Weselyan Missionary Society in 1903 and it is one of the oldest degree colleges in the eastern part of the Country. The Bankura Christian College is the first to initiate co-education in Bengal and the first woman graduate passed out from this college in 1910 thus making it a pioneer in the education of women. This year there was a further progression as the college introduced Bachelor of Physical Education as a coeducational course for the first time in Burdwan University colleges.

The College has post graduate courses in English that started in 2001 and in Bengali, which began in 2005. Now the college wants to introduce PG Courses in Zoology and Santhali. However, the Burdwan University is yet to give a clearance to this. The college meanwhile has started structuring a completely different set up for the PG courses and research work.

The Diocese of Durgapur, Church of North India that runs the management of the college has agreed to cover the major part of the construction expenses. Dr Richard R N Bajpayee, principal of the college said: "The Weselyan would cost Rs 2.5 crore and we are also looking for UGC grant in this regard."

He said: "After this we may start PG courses in as many subjects as we could afford, the students in this sub-region would benefit the most."
