Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC ) To Set Up Skill Development Centre In West Bengal

A high-level team of the Indian Chamber of Commerce, led by its president Sanjay Budhia, met West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee here on Wednesday and discussed how the chamber could partner several developmental initiatives of the state government in the near future.

The chamber intends to set up a centre of excellence for skill development in Bengal to provide necessary vocational training & soft skills to employable youth with an aim to address the demand-supply mismatch for skilled professionals in the industry, according to a release issued by the chamber. The ICC has requested Bhattacharjee for space in and around Kolkata for setting up the proposed centre.

Bhattacharjee has suggested that the ICC must set up four/five such centres across the state, adding that the first one outside Kolkata could be set up at Raghunathpur in Purulia district. These centres would contribute towards district-specific employment generation in Bengal, the chief minister felt. Bhattacharjee also welcomed ICC's proposal to set up an independent, full-fledged cell for intellectual property rights (IPRs). The proposed cell will create awareness and develop a culture for protection and management of IPRs in Bengal, the release said.

Besides Budhia, the delegation comprised senior vice-president V Saran, vice-president Jayanta Roy and secretary general Dr Rajeev Singh.
