Govt expects Rs 60,000 cr investment in New Town of KolkataBy Nishant, Section Real Estate
A total of Rs 11,500 crore has already been invested in construction work at New Town, the satellite town that is coming up on the eastern fringes of Kolkata. This was revealed by Minister for Housing and Public Health Engineering Gautam Deb during a debate on the budget of his department in the Assembly on Monday. "We expect that a total of Rs 60,000 crore will be invested in construction of this town," the minister added. He said that four diplomatic missions have expressed their interest in moving to New Town. "Last week, the Chinese consulate expressed its interest to build an office in the satellite town. The US consulate, the Philippines mission and the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission are also going to open their offices in New Town," Deb said. The minister said that West Bengal Assembly Speaker Hasim Abdul Halim has asked for 100 acres of land for construction of a new state Assembly building.
