Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratishthan (RMSP) Plans To Set Up Medical College in StateBy Shashank, Section Development
The Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratishthan (RMSP) is planning to set up an undergraduate medical college in the state. The Seva Pratishthan currently runs a postgraduate medical institute, a nursing school and a 610-bed general hospital.
During the concluding programme of the platinum jubilee celebration year of the Pratishthan and inauguration of MRI unit this morning, Swami Sarvalokananda Maharaj, the secretary of the RMSP, said, “We dreamt of installing an MRI unit, a cath-lab and an undergraduate medical college in our Seva Pratishthan.” He further added that they have succeeded in setting up the MRI unit and also plan to complete the cath-lab in the beginning of 2009. Clarifying their idea of introducing an undergraduate medical college, Swami Sarvalokananda Maharj mentioned that this general hospital has expressed the need for the best doctors and health staff to provide better health services to the patients. The Seva Pratishthan now runs a postgraduate medical college recognised by the West Bengal Health Sciences University. Expressing deep concern over retaining the affiliation of the postgraduate medical institute, Swami Prabhanandaji Maharaj, the general secretary of Ramakrishna Math and Mission, said, the postgraduate college might lose its affiliation if they fail to set up an undergraduate college in the near future. However, the secretary and the general secretary, said their dream can only be realised if the Ramakrishna Math and Mission gets assistance from the government as well as individual donors.
They spoke of the long path the RMSP had to travel to become the best private-run hospital in eastern India ~ from a small maternity and child welfare centre in 1932, founded by Swami Dayananda Maharaj.
The RMSP, which now consists of 11 internal departments and 18 outdoor departments all equipped with modern instruments, provides free health services to poor and needy people. Source: The Statesman 28/July/2008
