The West Bengal Green Energy Development Corporation Ltd (WBGEDCL) for the first time has tied-up with the real estate development company Siddha Group for transferring the know-how for energy conservation at its upcoming studio and serviced apartments project in Rajarhat, called Xanadu.

The corporation would charge a nominal fee for transferring the technology, but in future might was open to pick a equity as low as 2 per cent in the real estate projects seeking the technology, hinted S P Gon Choudhury, managing director of WBGEDCL, at a press conference to announce the tie-up in Kolkata on Wednesday.

Speaking of the occasion, Sanjay Jain, joint managing director of the Siddha Group, said out of 120 apartments in the project, 10 or so initially would be equipped with energy saving devices like solar thermal water heating system.

This apart, clean technology will be used in all common facilities like the eating area, club and gym.

The group has also applied for carbon credits, the revenue earned from which would be passed on to the costumers, claimed Jain.

Siddha Group would install solar thermal lightning system on a 500 metre stretch between Xanadu and Siddha Pines, another residential project by the group in the Rajarhat area.

According to Jain, the passive solar architecture in the building could save 30 per cent of energy consumption.

For example, glass used in building would ensure that 80 per cent of the heat was blocked, saving about 33 per cent of the overall energy consumption.

Other features of the project included hydro-pneumatic pumping system, used of LED bulbs, solar home lighting system and rain water harvesting
