Eastern Railway (ER) Introduces New Trains In Sealdah And Howrah Division from 1 July This Year

In order to meet the demand of passengers and reduce heavy rush of passengers in local trains, the Eastern Railway (ER) has decided to introduce 43 new Electrical Multiple Unit (EMU) local trains in Sealdah and Howrah Division and 10 long distance trains from 1 July this year.

A total of 27 local trains out of 43 have been sanctioned in Sealdah division and the rest 16 have been sanctioned in Howrah Division. Ten long distance trains from Howrah and Sealdah station to destinations like Murshidabad, Gaya, Puri , Patna will also be introduced from the first week of July. Mr Narendra Kumar Goel, general manager of Eastern Railway said that in order to meet the demand of commuters and to reduce heavy rush of passengers in local trains, these 43 new local trains have been introduced. Apart from 43 new trains, 16 pairs of trains will have 12 coach train from the third week of July. At present only 5 trains have 12 coaches which run between Sealdah-Krishnagarin and Seldah-Ranaghat routes.

In long distance trains, coaches comprising 81-berths have been introduced in sleeper class instead of present 72 berths. Similarly, coaches comprising 72 berths in AC three tier instead of present 64 berths.
