The state Waqf board to survey disputed properties under it,involving the common peopleBy Riti, Section Real Estate
For the first time since Independence, the state Waqf board will physically survey various disputed properties under it and would involve the common people in this process. State minister for minority development and madrasa education Abdus Sattar on Thursday said, "The Waqf Board will bear the total cost of the field verification of Waqf properties amounting to Rs 40 lakhs. The work for surveying the total number of Waqf estates, encroachments on them and income from such estates will be carried out in sync with the land and land reforms ministry following the Waqf Act of 1995."
The involvement of the common people will make the process more transparent, he said. "The survey report of the Waqf board will be published in the next Calcutta Gazette," Mr Sattar said. "A separate cell consisting of officers like the DLR, SR and SDO will monitor the entire process to ensure that it is foolproof," he added. Source:Asian Age 20thJune2008.
