After A Series of Hurdles IIM-C Finally Released Offer Letters To OBC Candidates

After a series of hurdles, the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, has finally released offer letters to OBC candidates today.

The institute had conducted the interview and group discussion for the students on May 15.

On May 14, the Calcutta High Court had stayed the admission of the OBC candidates. But the IIM-C conducted the group discussion and personal interview without coming out with the final list.

The Supreme Court cleared the impasse after a few days, allowing institutes to carry on with the admission process. Since then, the institute was waiting for a final response from the Ministry of Human Resources Development.

“The Union ministry has enclosed a copy of the Supreme Court ruling with the official letter and asked the institute to go ahead with the admission,” said Dinesh Varma, chief administrative officer of IIM-C. The academic session will start from June 23.

“The students will have to come a week before and register well before the session starts,” said Varma.

But since instructions from the ministry are not very clear, the institute is still sending provisional offer letters. The OBC candidates who appeared for the group discussion and personal interview at IIM-C campus on May 15 were asked to sign a declaration saying their admissions will be null and void if any legal complications crop in.

This year, the intake of students in the post-graduate diploma in business management is 318. Nine of them will be admitted under the OBC quota. The IIM-C had declared the list of general candidates on May 1.
