Education Fair A Hit With Students In KolkataBy siddharth22, Section Education
Hundreds of students braved the heat to enquire about career options at the second edition of Education Times Career Fair that kicked off on Friday.
Artist Shuvaprasanna inaugurated the fair at Kanoria Hall on Southern Avenue. With more than 30 stalls set up by various educational and professional institutions, the fair is a treasure trove of information. It will be open to all on till Saturday. "With so many possibilities and options to choose from, this fair can help students choose the right career path. In our time, there were not many options available. But fairs like these help to bridge the information gap. Students now have a better perspective on the various careers and courses on offer," said Shuvaprasanna, emphasizing the fact that it's not only doctors or engineers, who make a mark in life. The visitors crowded around stalls seeking information about their desired careers. From conventional courses like engineering, management and information technology (IT) to creative ones like fashion, jewellery designing, media and the "much-in-demand" sectors of retail, multimedia, aviation and hospitality management there is something for everyone at the fair. Divya Hans, a second year student, said: "The fair provided me with all the information I needed about gemology. Initially, I was very confused. But the fair helped me to check out for myself all the spheres of study under jewellery education." Priya Bagchi, another student visiting the fair and who plans to appear for management entrance exams next year, said: "The fair provided me a lowdown on management courses and the best institutes that offer this course."
The fair also provides students with information regarding various foreign degrees and online courses. "Holding such a fair is a great idea.
With so many courses on offer, it would really help students choose for themselves and make the right choice," quipped Monisha Chatterjee, a parent, who visited the fair. Talking about the footfall, Annapurna Roy of Jetking Training Institute said: "The bunch of students, who are coming in, are very keen to know about the available courses." Pitched in Brinda Das of NSHM Knowledge Campus, "It is a great way to make people aware of the latest courses in the market." Source:The Times Of India,10-05-08
