The state government must take some steps to control price rise. CPI state secretary Manju Majumdar on Tuesday linked the increasing prices to the broken-down public distribution system (PDS).
"There are problems in the public distribution system and the state government will have to take some steps. This is going to have an impact on the panchayat poll. The government has to take steps for dehoarding of essential items," said Majumdar. He made this comment at a time when CPM general secretary Prakash Karat was busy arguing that the price rise was a fallout of the UPA government's policies.
"The government can distribute some items at a subsidized rate through the PDS so that it reaches the poor," said Majumdar.
