Kolkata Police Agrees To Bring Down Fee For IPL Matches

The Kolkata Police on Thursday night agreed to the plea of the organisers, who have requested for a climb down in the demand for fee on account of police arrangement in the IPL matches at Eden Gardens, saying it was all for successful conduct of the matches.
"The organisers made a plea for bringing down the amount claimed by us on account of expenses for deployment of force.

We have agreed to the revised amount in the interest of the image and culture of Kolkata. We are all for successful holding of the matches," Commissioner of Police Goutam Mohan Chakraborty said in Kolkata.

The CP hinted that the decision was prompted by reports of not so satisfactory sale of tickets for the matches.

Chakraborty, who termed as false, report in a local channel about police withdrawing security from the venue, said there would be no compromise on the security angle.

"The concerned channel owned up the mistake after both me and one of the organisers spokesman called them up. There cannot be any laxity on security on our part for matches in the city. It is against our principle," the CP said.

He said while police made inspection of the stadium on Thursday the rehearsal of force deployment would take place on Friday.

While the top cop declined to spell out the revised figure or the initial match fee claim by police, DC (headquarters) Vineet Goyal on Wedneday said the police demanded Rs 25 to 30 lakh for every IPL match to be played at Eden which was six times the standard fee and negotiable.

The policemen deployed will be in addition to regular personnel on duty. They will look after security at the playing arena, manage traffic around the venue, take care of VIPs and set up cordons around hotels where the players and the VIPs will put up.
