Ray Institute To Open Soon, New Security Agency Will Take ChargeBy siddharth22, Section News
The Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute may soon be back to its work.
After a high level meeting in New Delhi between the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi and the chairman and director of the institute, the impasse at the institute is likely to end on or before April 15. The director Swapan Mallik said, "The final decision on the date of re-opening will be conveyed from Delhi but the minister has assured us that he will try to re-open the institute before April 15." Last month, the service contract of the previous security agency was terminated and a new agency was hired. The old group of CITUbacked security staff, demanding the Employees State Insurance and provident fund facilities, did not allow the staff of the new agency to enter the institute on April 1, prompting the authorities to close down the SRFTI due to "security reasons". Sources said that after the meeting in Delhi it was decided that the new security agency would take charge with immediate effect. Decision on the deployment of CISF personnel on the campus was yet to be taken. Though authorities said that the possibility of CISF deployment could not be ruled out. Students were the most relieved after the meeting. "We have heard that our institute willre-openfromApril15.We are happy. But at the same timewedon'twanttohopefor too much before the decisions are actually implemented," saidRakaDutta, astudent. Source:The Indian Express,10-04-08
