After four years, the coal capital is once again ready to bring its bibliophiles close to good books.

The ninth book fair would be held at Lindsay Club and Library Campus from April 4 to 13.

Over 60 stalls would be put up in an area of 7000sqft besides a stage for cultural and literary programmes would be set up for the 10-day fair.

Already seven Hindi publishers Geeta Press from Gorakhpur, Rajkamal Prakashan from Patna, Upkar Prakasan from Agra, S. Chand, Bani Prakashan and Bharati Bhavan from Patna and Kitab Ghar from Delhi have booked their stalls.

Among English publishers Wonderland from Calcutta, Skylark, Bargain Book, Amit Book Distributors and Baba Pocket Books from Delhi are coming down for the fair.

So far as Bengali publishers are concerned, a number of reputable names have registered while many in the process of registering for stalls, a committee member said.

It is worth noting that though the book fair started in 1985 it was not held regularly but the keenness of the people of Dhanbad, Bihar and Bengal were instrumental in restoring the fair this year after it was held in 2004.

"The committee owes its intense gratitude to late Krishnendu Gupta, an artist and cultural connoisseur, who pioneered the cause of the fair. The cultural stage has been named after him," said Ashiwini Kumar Nandi, a senior member of the club.

On April 3, school students would bring out a procession in the morning to promote the fair and spread the message love books. On April 5 and 6, cultural and literary programmes would be organised and to mark the World Health Day, an awareness programme would be organised on April 7.

This year, the organisers invited some artisans from remote villages in Bengal to prepare folk art forms from objects of daily use.

About 10,000 free entry passes would be distributed to schoolchildren.
