Pradhan added that besides Kolkata, the potential growth areas like Asansol, Siliguri, Durgapur, Haldia, also require proper infrastructure development, which will be meted by public-private partnerships.

Kolkata metropolis has become a hotspot for industrialists, who consider it an ultimate investment destination, which is basically a result of `proactive' state government.

The per capita income of the state has reportedly increased to 7.63 per cent while the retail segment is expecting a growth of 35 per cent. The employment generation has shot up to 3.55 per cent in urban areas and 3.33 per cent in rural areas.

Analysing the socio-political reality in India, it's difficult for the private sector to bring about changes in urban areas without the state becoming an active facilitator.

Experts say that with active participation of both sides, West Bengal can hope to witness better roads, connectivity and over all dynamic infrastructure in the days to come.
