The state is making an all out effort to attract German technology and investment in the renewable energy and clean coal technology sectors in the state, especially in the field of production of power from Coal Bed Methane or mine gas.
A delegation of businessmen and government officials from the German state of North Rhine Westphalia are visiting the city in this regard.
They will be collaborating with the West Bengal Government and local business houses in the area for setting up efficient power plants that work on the principle of renewable energy. The Germans have a 30 per cent share in the 100,000 MW of power produced globally from renewable sources.
The managing director of West Bengal Renewable Energy Development Agency, S P Gon Chaudhuri, said that prominent companies like CESC and Exide have shown a keen interest in adopting German technology for generating power from methane gas.
"There have been healthy interactions and we see the possibility of the Indian and German companies inking a pact soon," said Chaudhuri .
On the question of funding renewable energy projects in the state, Dr Volkhard Riechmann, Deputy Secretary of State, said, "In Vietnam, we have initiated a lot of projects, on a 50:50 partnership basis. The same could be done in West Bengal too."
