The results of BCom Part I Honours examinations of the Calcutta University, under the new regulations (1+1+1) declared on Wednesday, marked a decline of 14 per cent in pass percentage.
Pass percentage of 81.10 registered this year, is much lower as compared to last year's 95.55 per cent.
In case of general candidates, the pass percentage remained steady at 98.45 per cent compared to last year's 98.53 per cent.
The pass percentage of male students dropped from 78.11 from last year's 94.47 per cent, bringing the average down.
Under new regulations, students had to appear for two Honours papers along with general papers. The percentage of students who passed in the Honours category is 89.88. Under the old regulation, in the general category, the pass percentage is 64.28 per cent.
Suranjan Das, Pro-VC of Calcutta University, said the results for the two years cannot be compared as the students appeared for more papers this year.
Debasish Biswas, Deputy Controller of Examination (CU), said: "In 2006, the students appeared for general papers only. This year, they had to appear for two Honours and general papers."
