Burning Ghat Faces Powercut

Nimtala Burning Ghat faced disruption in power supply for at least eight hours on Thursday, resulting in piling up of dead bodies. The electric furnace was non-functional from 4.10 am to 12.15 pm. While some chose to carry the dead to Kashimitra Burning Ghat for cremation, others waited till power was restored. Wooden chullies were also used on Thursday for cremation. A worker at the ghat said, "A disruption in power supply is quite common in the burning ghat. CESC authorities usually inform us before hand, in case of a power disruption. But Thursday's case was unique. We were not informed by the CESC."
