The state transport and environment departments decided on Thursday that all vehicle owners from now on will have to show the pollution under control (PUC) certificate at all petrol pumps every time they go for a refill.
The meeting between these two departments took three important decisions to control the pollution level in the city. It is from now on mandatory to carry the PUC certificate. A private agency will also be hired which will station mobile vans with remote sensing devices at important traffic junctions. These vans will monitor the emission of smoke from vehicles. Fines will be imposed against polluting vehicles.
It was also decided that auto rickshaw owners will be given Rs 4,000 each as subsidy to instal LPG in their vehicles. The money will be given from a Rs 2 crore fund that is lying with the department of envirionment.
