Forms For Haj To Be Available From DM's OfficeBy sachiv1, Section News
People willing to go on Haj can now collect forms from the office of the district magistrate, courtesy a decentralised system of screening for Haj pilgrims in the state. The respective office will also handle the process of screening and vaccination which was earlier handled by the Haj committee at the Writers' Buildings. This new system in favour of the Hajis was announced by Abdus Sattar, minister for state minorities development.
"We have decided to decentralise the process so that all the required steps can be performed through the office of respective district magistrates. To save time, the Hajis can download the forms which will be available from our website," said Sattar. The process of issuing the application forms will commence from June 1 and the last date of submission is June 31. There were 4,600 applications last year out of which about 60 people failed to go. Their money will be refunded. The estimated cost will be Rs 75,000 to Rs 2 lakh. The minister also announced a project for establishing a Madrasa University in Kolkata, apart from initiating BEd courses in Urdu. A total of Rs 6.5 crore has been estimated for the projects, he added. Apart from theology other subjects will also be taught in the University. "We have identified land for the building near Lady Brabourne College," Sattar added. (Source - Indian Express, 30/05/07)
