The state government is yet to finalise the site for a chemical hub which will come up in the port town of Haldia. After a meeting with chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, state commerce and industry minister Nirupam Sen told reporters that a chemical hub will be set up in the state.
The high-level meeting called by the chief minister was also attended by chief secretary Amit Kiran Deb and rural development minister Surya Kanta Mishra. The leaders discussed the situation in Nandigram, the abandoned site for a special economic zone (SEZ), which was a part of the chemical hub.
"A chemical hub will be set up in the state after consulting all political parties and the chief minister has written to the parties seeking their suggestions," industry secretary Sabyasachi Sen said. He did not, however, name a possible site for the chemical hub. Nirupam Sen told reporters that a chemical hub will have to be set up in the state.
"The hub will in all probability be set up at Haldia since it has a large concentration of petrochemical projects. But the exact site will be finalised only after consulting all parties," Sen said.
