When asked, Member, Mayor-in-Council (MMiC) of the Education Department of KMC Kalyani Mitra said, "We had certain internal problems and couldn't provide schools with the list of holidays in time. Although the list was sent late, we kept the schools informed about the holiday details."

The KMC runs 239 primary schools in the city and according to teachers of various schools they faced a lot of difficulty in the absence of the holiday list. "We need the holiday calendar once the session begins, because we need to decide the routine according to the holidays," said a primary school teacher on condition of anonymity. He told Newsline that schools were ordered to maintain regular contact with the KMC headquarters for information related to holidays. "We had to either contact the department through telephones or personally visit the headquarters in order to get valid information," he added.
