Government Trust Plan School For MinoritiesBy sachiv1, Section Education
The state government is planning an educational institution on the public-private model in collaboration with the Education Endowment Trust, New Delhi.
Fifty per cent of the seats of the school will be reserved for minority students, particularly for those coming from the Muslim community. The institute will be administered by a managing committee, which will have two nominees of the government. The proposal received the green signal from Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, who is also in charge of the Department Of Minority Development. Land has been allocated for the project in Kasba. The New Delhi-based trust will start an English medium school that will accommodate 940 students. A skill development centre for enhancement of employable skills for about 120 students will also be set up. Thirty students from the minority section will avail full fee concession on recommendation of the government. Minority students coming from poor families will be also be aided with scholarships to fund their studies. An investment of Rs 6 crore for the construction of this institute will be borne by the Trust and the source of income of the school will be the fee collected from students. The fee structure will be determined as per guidelines of the affiliating board and the concerned department of the government. (Source - Indian Express, 21/05/07)
