The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has identified four bighas of land at Dhakuria (ward 92) for installing a water pumping station. According to Mrinal Kanti Mondol, member, mayor in council of the water supply department, the proposed pumping station will reduce the problem of surface water scarcity in the area.
Although no funds has been allotted for this station yet, KMC officials claim that its fund will be utilised for the project.
Once constructed, the pumping station will have a capacity of two million gallons of water. "We will finalise the location after conducting a soil test. Only then will we demarcate the area," said Mondol today.
According to him, officers and workers of the water supply department have already been visiting Dhakuria to demarcate the plot of land.
