Candidates who have cleared the IIM entrance CAT, sailed through group discussion and interviews and are now waiting for the Indian Institute(s) of Management to declare the final list for the 2007 admissions, will have to wait. All six IIMs have been asked, like other Central institutions, to immediately stop their admission process for this year till "further orders".

Though the SC had stayed the admissions under the OBC quota this year, IIMs had decided to go ahead with the process and declare the selected candidates list from general and SC/ST categories on April 12. However, a faxed message to all the six IIM directors clearly said the admission lists should be held back.

The message was received at IIM-Calcutta around 11 am on Friday, sending the institute into a huddle, despite it being a holiday. Shubhabrata Das, chairperson (admission), IIMB, said, "Now, we will await orders from the ministry on admissions for 2007 batch.''
