The Union Government will appoint a consultant who will conduct a survey of the tourism sector of the state and send its report to the Centre so that plans and proposals can be initiated by the state government to strengthen this sector.
An announcement to this effect was made by G D Gautama, Principal Secretary of the state tourism department, at a meeting at the Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
"The consultant is going to study different places that have tourism value in the state and suggest infrastructural changes keeping in mind the ecological and heritage aspects. This kind of a consultant will help publicise our state which has great tourism potential," said Gautama.
A full-fledged professional agency will also be employed by the state to advertise it as a tourist spot both before the national and the international media.
Talks are on with three such agencies for this job. However, Ernst and Young might be finally getting the job, Gautama said.
