As a back-end support to meet the farm produce requirements of Reliance `Fresh' stores, which have already come up in Jaipur, Delhi and the NCR, as well as the new stores planned for Punjab, Reliance is setting up Distribution Centres, in Punjab and Haryana.

While, a Distribution Center, operating from Jalandhar is already meeting a part of the demand from Reliance `Fresh' stores operating in the North, the work for new centres is in progress at Amritsar, Ludhiana and Chandigarh. Besides, such centres are also envisaged at Kapurthala, Sangrur, Patiala and Fatehgarh Sahib to facilitate procurement of the agri-produce. The current demand of about 150MT per day is expected to go up to 500 MT per day with the opening of new stores in Punjab and neighbouring states. Reliance has also begun procurement in Haryana.

Reliance, according to official sources, has planned to procure fruits from different states, like kinnows from Punjab, litchi from Bihar, mango from Uttar Pradesh, Bengal and Bihar and apple from Himachal. Besides, they have been procuring potatoes from Bathinda at competitive prices.

Apart from sourcing farm produce from the farmers, Reliance will provide agri-extension services including guidance on crops, fertilisers and chemicals to the farmers. At a later stage, Reliance may offer financial services to them.

Reliance Distribution centres and `Fresh' neighbourhood convenience stores are a part of the Rs. 25,000 crore "farm to fork" retail initiative of the group. Soon, the company will also launch other store formats like Hypermarkets, Supermarkets and Speciality stores across all urban centres of the country. Next on the list of `Fresh' stores is Jalandhar during this month with Ludhiana, Amritsar, Patiala and Chandigarh to be followed in the next 4 to 6 weeks. Reliance has planned to open 100 `Fresh' stores in Punjab.

The company will procure fruits from different states, like kinnows from Punjab, litchi from Bihar, mango from Uttar Pradesh, Bengal and Bihar and apple from Himachal. Besides, they have been procuring potatoes from Bathinda at competitive prices.
