The Tata small car manufacturing unit at Singur is all set to bring in Foreign Direct Investment from the US.

This was evident from the words of Ron Somers, president of US-India Business Council (USIBC), who is leading a delegation of US businessmen to Kolkata, scouting for investment opportunities in the state.

At a function organised today by the CII to discuss IndoUS economic co-operation, Somers said: "It is Ratan Tata who has inspired our confidence by agreeing to set up the small car manufacturing factory at Singur. He is Mr India. He is a man of honesty and thorough professionalism. He is largely responsible for our coming here. "Somers, alongwith other members of the delegation, will meet CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee tomorrow to discuss specific areas where the US companies can invest. "West Bengal is now the ultimate destination for investors because the situation here is all conducive for investments," Somers said.

The areas of investments that the delegates -- members of the US Chamber of Commerce based in Washington are looking at include chemical hubs, IT, agro industries and engineering.

At a function organised at Durgapur today, Bhattacharjee, meanwhile, said he will discuss the possibility of US investments in the proposed chemical hub in the state.

The US delegation will also push for FDI in retail here. "Retail chains strengthen links between the consumer and the farmer and there is no possibility of people losing their livelihood as feared in some quarters, "Somers said.
