Mackintosh Burn bags Laldighi projectBy Mrs Gupta, Section Development
The state government has zeroed in on its own construction company Mackintosh Burn Limited to build the underground parking lot at Laldighi.
The company bagged the project with a technical bid of Rs 26.5 crore which was the closest to the government's estimate of Rs 27 crore after the documents were opened on Wednesday. The firm was selected on Wednesday after the state public works department (PWD) scrutinised Confirming that Mackintosh Burn has bagged the project, PWD minister Kshiti Goswami said, "As far as I know, Mackintosh Burn will execute the project at an estimated cost of Rs 26 crore." Initially, more than 10 firms had bid for the project. The authorities then had shortlisted three firms -- Ramky Infrastructure Limited, Simplex India Limited and Mackintosh Burn Limited. Goswami said Mackintosh Burn bagged the project as the other two shortlisted firms could not furnish proper technical documents.
"I have learnt that documents of the other two firms were not in order," the minister said. Mackintosh Burn Limited's managing director N Dhar said the tender process was very complicated. He added the state-run firm was technically qualified for the work.
PWD officials said certain shortcomings in the tender documents furnished were responsible for the rejection of the other two firms. "The other two firms were asked to submit detailed drawings of the project within the last seven days. They failed to do that. It was mentioned in the tender that the contractor will have to follow the design prescribed by the PWD authorities to qualify for the project," said an official. The two-storey car park project at the heritage zone of Dalhousie Square now awaits the work order. It is slated to accommodate 625 cars. Environmental clearance for the project has been acquired. The car park will come up on the build-operate-transfer model and will be mostly used by government officials and visitors to Writers' Buildings. The Laldighi area will also be beautified by planting more trees to give it an eco-friendly look. "We will maintain the heritage zone's character while building the car park," said an official.
