The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has decided to paint all the corporation schools in the same colour. And the colour will be red, symbolising the colour of the ruling party in Bengal.

There are 242 corporation schools in the city. By next year, most of the corporationrun schools will be covered with a fresh coat of red colour, sources said.

The work of painting and renovating the schools have already started in some of the schools in North and Central Kolkata. Of these 242 schools in the 141 wards, more than 60 per cent are not owned by the civic body. They are on rent. These rented schools will also be painted in red.

"What is the harm if we paint the schools in red?" asked Kalyani Mitra, MMiC of the education department.

"We want to give an uniform look to all the corporation schools."
