Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) and Kolkata Police have decided to join forces to crack down on the construction of unauthorised buildings in the city.
Apart from this, the corporation and city police will cooperate in traffic management, collection of property tax, checking wastage of drinking water and cleaning streets. Municipal commissioner Alapan Bandyopadhyay announced this on Thursday at a function at the KMC headquarters.
It was decided at a meeting that a 24 hour special cell would be set up at Lalbazar for citizens to lodge complaints if they see illegal buildings coming up. A police team would be entrusted the job of demolishing unauthorised buildings.
Mayor Bikash Bhattacharya also handed over two inflatable tower lights to commissioner Gautam Mohan Chakraborty for KP's disaster management unit at the function. He termed this as a token gesture.
