No Change Of Category In State School Service Commission (SSC) Examination

In an attempt to curb the tendency among examinees to change the category of post in the state School Service Commission (SSC) examination, the commission today announced that no examinee will be allowed to change the category of post, in which they had applied for when they took the test the first time. This year's SSC examination is scheduled for 23 December.

Examinees, on earlier occasions, would change their category of post to get a job near their residence. The commission has decided to restrict examinees from switching over from one category of post to other according to their convenience, for three years. This practice by examinees has left the commission in a soup, who find it difficult to fill the posts they have left vacant. For instance, an examinee might apply as an honours candidate in his first SSC exam and secure a post in a school away from his residence. Unsatisfied with the school he has been allotted, he might apply as a post-graduate candidate in the following year which in turn leaves the earlier post vacant.

A host of other changes also awaits the examinees from next year onwards. Taking a cue from the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board, SSC also decided to take the thumb impression of examinees throughout the examination procedure and also after they are appointed as a teacher in a school.

"Since it is difficult to trace fake candidates after the examination, we have decided to match the candidates' thumb impression taken during the counselling sessions with that on their application forms. Thumb impression of the candidate will also be tallied in the school," Mr Ranajit Basu, chairman of SSC said.

A change in the colour of application forms which will be distributed from tomorrow till 17 October is also in the pipeline. The forms will be segregated into four colours, two for Madrasah schools and two for government-aided schools.
The marks distribution pattern in the written exam will also get a facelift.

The marks in the subject papers will be increased by 20, which means that examinees will have to appear for a 60 mark theoretical paper for all subjects. On the other hand, allotment of marks in the personality test will be reduced from 10 to 5. Although marks allotment in the general knowledge paper will plunge to 10 from 20, the commission decided to include elementary mathematics and English in it. The decision was taken with the objective to churn out teachers who have more understanding on the subject they would teach.
