Days after selecting Nayachar as the prospective site for the chemical hub, chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee sat with some of his Cabinet colleagues on Wednesday to make amends to the original plan and reorganise the projects that the Salim group had promised to take up.
Among the priorities set was setting up of the bridge leading to Nayachar and the Raichak Kukrahati bridge. The CM also inquired about the geophysical tests that were being conducted at Nayachar.
The land at Nayachar is currently under the control of the fisheries department and for the chemical hub, the land is to be transferred to the land department and after that, it will be handed over to WBIDC.
With the shifting of the venue of the hub to Nayachar, the government has to renegotiate with the Salim group over the plot on offer. However, the Salim group will construct the Raichak Kukrahati bridge as planned before. The bridge on the Hooghly will shorten the distance between Kolkata and Haldia by about 50 km.
