The Indian Statistical Institute(ISI) Holds Seminar On Digital Archives

The Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, stands as the torch-bearer among the institutes across the country in digitising archival material. In last 2 to 3 years, the Library, Documentation and International Science Division (LDISD) of the institute has documented over three lakh documents related to the institute, said Usha Mujoo Munshi, the chief librarian of the institute.

The documents include papers relating to statistics and mathematics, research papers of the students and various other repositories of the institution. The institute, along with Department of Science and Technology of the state government, Council of Science and Industrial Research (CSIR) is organising an international seminar from October 29 to 31 on Digital Preservation of Heritage and Research issues. LDISD and Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Unit (CVPR Unit) have jointly organised the seminar, where 125 delegates from various parts of the world are participating.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the seminar, Munshi said that the preservation of heritage in a culturally rich country like India it is difficult task.
