Four hotel groups Pride, Hotel Hindustan International, Kenilworth and Mishra's are planning to set up properties in the state with total investments pegged at nearly Rs 500 crore. The four hotels are expected to come up by 2010.
Pride group chairman S P Jain said he had approached the government for a four-acre plot to set up a 250-room five star hotel. "We are looking for a property near Kolkata," he told TOI.
HHI and Kenilworth, already present in Kolkata, are seeking to consolidate their presence. Officials of both the hotel groups said they have been scouting for land as they were keen on having a second property.
While HHI has been weighing the option of purchasing existing properties as well, Kenilworth had approached Hidco for a plot in New Town but have not been offered one yet. HHI is looking at a property with more than 150 rooms.
Mishra's, a Kolkata-based food and beverage group, is planning a foray into hotels with a two-three-acre property for a three star business hotel having 100-plus rooms. "We will start a project as soon as we get a suitable plot," said Rajesh Mishra, chairman and managing director of Mishra's.
