Calcutta University To Publish BA, BSc Results In November

Calcutta University has assured its students that the results of BA, B Sc Part I and Part II examinations conducted under the 1+1+1 system and Part II examination under the 2+1system will be published by November. The examinations, which began in the third week of June were scheduled to end in July. However, some examinations were deferred till the first week of August because of the heavy rains, which in turn has delayed the publication of results.

"Even if the results are pub lished in November, we will not be violating the 90 day period. University regulations state that the results have to be published within 90 days of the last exam," said Suranjan Das, pro Vice Chancellor of Calcutta University.

He denied that the newly introduced 1+1+1 pattern had delayed the publicatio n of results. Deputy Controller of examination Debasish Biswas said that this year the theoretical examination had ended by August 3 and the practicals by the first week of September.

"One should not expect the BA, B Sc results to be published early just because the B Com results were published earlier. One must also keep in mind the fact that the B Com exams began early," added Biswas. "The students of colleges, where the number of failures are more, will be inconvenienced as more than half of the classes for the next year will be completed by November," said Bidhannagar College Principal Deepak Ranjan Mondal. Mondal added that it would take the university some time to implement the new proposals.

Ashutosh College Principal Debrata Biswas feels that the university is under too much pressure as it has many colleges (in Kolkata, Howrah, North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas) under its umbrella. She said that is natural that there will be a delay.

Meanwhile, it is the students who are the worst sufferers. Rigdev Sarkar, a third-year student of Journalism and Mass Communication at Ashutosh College, is praying that the results are published soon. "I have applied to the Symbiosis Institute of Communication and the admission forms have to be sent by November. It is mandatory to include the results of the previous examination even if you have one examination remaining," he said.
