The construction process was delayed due to trouble which occurred during the acquisition of land and faulty design. A portion of the bridge was constructed but the rest could not be completed due to this.

While addressing the gathering after inaugurating the flyover and the bridge, the chief minister said both would help residents of Kidderpore to get connected with the heart of Kolkata.
"What we need is pace. And the flyover and the bridge would give pace to the residents of the area," he said.

The project was flagged off in 1997 but the work stopped in 2000 due to the problems. Work started again in February, 2006 and completed recently.
Mr Sadhan Ranjan Bannerjee, the vice chairman of Hooghly River Bridge Commissioners said, "The bridge and the flyover would help local people and its importance would be felt when works for the NH 117 would start. It is 558 metres long and an amount of Rs 12.6 crore has been spent for the entire project."
