United Spirits Ltd (USL) would set up a grain based whisky plant at Asansol in West Bengal at an investment of around Rs 35 crore, a company official said on Friday.
The proposed plant in the state would have a capacity of 30 kiloliters per day, Mr Kaushik Chatterjee, Chief Operating Officer, USL (East) said.
Besides Asansol, similar plants would be set up in Maharashtra and north India, he said. The company currently has three plants in the east, he added.
USL was also targeting a sales growth of 15 per cent in the current financial year, Mr Chatterjee said, adding that it had sold 66 million cases in the last financial year.
This fiscal, USL was targeting to sell 70 million cases, said Mr Chatterjee. In the last financial year, the company's market share in the overall spirits segment was 66 per cent.
