Haldia Development Authority (HDA) Did Not Cancel Tainted NoticeBy sachiv1, Section News
Congress leader Manas Bhuniya alleged that despite the chief minister's order the Haldia Development Authority (HDA) did not cancel the "tainted notice" officially. The notice has created a lot of confusion over the land acquisition at Nandigram for setting up a Petrochemical Chemical Petroleum Investment Region (PCPIR).
Bhuniya has demanded immediate cancellation of the notice. According to Bhuniya, the notice was issued on January 2 which said that 27 mouzas among 99 mouzas in Nandigram would be acquired by the HDA. This created panic among the land owners in the region. Later, the chief minister said he had asked the district magistrate to throw the notice into the waste paper basket. "Neither the district administration nor the HDA followed the order of the CM," said Bhuniya. Meanwhile, the Congress has asked the government to stop land acquisition in Nandigram. They will hold a conference in the city to discuss all the matters related to land acquisition. "We are working to prepare a document on land use in the state," said Bhuniya. Leaders from block, district and state level will attend it. Former bureaucrats from the land and land reforms ( L& LR) department and agricultural scientists will also be present at the conference, said Bhuniya. "We are not against industrialisation. But our party's stand is that industries should not come up on fertile land," added Bhuniya. (Source-Indian Express,26/01/07)
