Now, Green Concern Over Book Fair

A day after the high court dismissed the organisers' PIL to hold the book fair on the Maidan and ruled that the issue rests with the army, the Eastern Command here is under pressure as citybased environmentalists get set to approach the Defence ministry and urge it to not give sanction for Maidan's use.
While the city's environment lobby has decided to approach Defence Minister A K Antony and GOC-in-C, Eastern Command, the Booksellers and Publishers Guild are busy lobbying with the state government and the Kolkata Municipal Corporation to hold the fair at the heart of the city. The army had given the goahead for the book fair to be held on Maidan last year as an exception for the last time.
