Its emphasis on industrialisation apart, the state government is surging ahead to expand IT infrastructure. IT parks are to come up in the city's fringes. One such park has been conceived on a 100 acre plot at Birati, near the NSC Bose international airport.
State IT minister Debesh Das said the plot is owned by a company and its promoter "has shown interest to develop an IT park on it. We are in touch with him to discuss the project cost". The government is keen on developing IT parks in areas enjoying close connectivity to the airport and national highways. Birati apart, a 50 acre plot has been identified near Madhyamgram where an NRI Bengali businessman Santosh Mukherjee is interested to set up a Rs 1000 crore knowledge valley.
