THE Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (IASE), deemed university situated in Sardarshahr, Rajasthan, isallsettoestablishits campusinthecity.

IASE is in the final stages of negotiation with the state government for having a plot measuring 25-cottah in Muktaram Babu Street in central Kolkata, for setting upits campus.

Milap Dugar, vice-chancellor, IASE, said: We specialise in education for rural development and wish to take it to as many people as possible. Withthisobjective in mind, we want to set up a campus here. If the state government gives us the consent, we may establish a bigger campus in this city only.

The university has courses in professional, technical, vocational and many traditional streams. Dugar said that since less space availability will be a major constraint in the city, only need-based courses, namely, paramedical and polytechnic courses will be introduced for the city students, initially.

The total investment will be around Rs 100 crore.

As soon as we get the land, construction for the building will commence. Hopefully, classes can then start after an 18-month phase, Dugar said.

IASE already has a campus in Bhubaneswar which has 700 students. There are 10,000 students studying at IASE-campus in Rajasthan.

Pratap Chandra Chunder, chairman of the Heritage Commission, who was also present at the press conference organ ised by the institute on Mon day, said: This is a well come move.
