The repair of National Highway-34 began on Friday. "We have started the work and hope it will be completed in 15 days," said S Bhattacharya, superintendent engineer of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
In the first phase, patchwork repair will be done on the 244-km stretch from Sekhdighi to Dalkhola. A budget of Rs 20 crore has been sanctioned for the project.
The condition of the national highway has worsened so much that most of the buses, plying between North Bengal and Kolkata, have been suspended indefinitely.
